Box Tops for education - yup, this is still a great and easy fundraising tool!

Did you know Box Tops are still a thing that earn money for Hawthorne?

They've made it super easy now with an app - you just scan your receipt and it applies any Box Top earnings right to the schools account! If you grocery shop online, you can forward the receipts to an email address and it processes them for you, too.

And if you shop at Costco, they often have bigger bonuses that can add multiple dollars to your contribution - it's great!

FOH provides all student school supplies for 2021/22 - Donate here to keep this tradition going!

School supply drive image.PNG

For the 6th year running, Friends of Hawthorne PTA is providing all school supplies for all classrooms in the school. This means that families do not need to find a class list and go out and buy a slew of items for their student - all those supplies are ready and waiting in the classroom on the first day of school! This is an important step in helping to create equity in the classroom.

These supplies include pencils, crayons, markers, folders, calculators, scissors, paper, notebooks, pens, glue, erasers and so much more, including multiple sets of items for the Kindergarten classrooms for high-touch items.

We ask each family who is able to donate $40 for each of their students at Hawthorne. This helps to cover the costs for ALL students, including those families that may not be able to donate at this time. Your donation helps to create a sense of security, belonging, and equity in our classrooms and ensures no students go without.

Please go to the page below to donate through our site - click on the link “Please give to FOH’s School Supplies Fund Today!” Donations of more than $40 are definitely welcome!

Attention K-2 families: free books for summer reading!

kids books.PNG

Good news!  There will be two separate eFairs this year for students to choose free summer reading books. Students in K-2 can choose their books starting today, April 30th.  Students in 3-5 will choose their books later in May, so keep an eye out for more information coming soon.

For K-2 families, our school is participating in Book Up Summer so each student in our class gets to choose 12 free books!  The books will come to our school in June, and I will notify you when they have arrived to coordinate pick-up.

But first – everyone in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade needs to order 12 books each. We only have one (1) week – our order deadline is May 7th.

Look through the book categories with your child. When you click on a category – it will open to show you all the books available of that type (e.g. – Picture Books). Note the little blue arrow on the side of each row. You can use it to scroll through, so you can see more books. It is very important that your child chooses books that they are interested in. Let them take the lead.

  1. Add a book to your cart. Click on the book cover image and click on ‘Add to Cart.’

  2. Enter your student’s first and last name, select the student’s teacher and click on ‘Add to Cart.’

  3. Add the other 11 books to your cart.

  4. Once all 12 books have been added, click the ‘Go to Cart’ icon at the top right.

  5. Review your selections and click ‘Submit Order’.

  6. I will let you know when the books arrive in June so we can coordinate pick-up.

  7. These books are a gift from Page Ahead for your family to keep. Read and enjoy them over the summer!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. My child wants graphic novels. I think he should choose harder books.

A. Graphic novels can actually have great story lines and challenging words. The most important thing is for him to choose books he wants to read.

    Q.  Does she need to return these?  She isn’t good about keeping track of her books.

A. No. These books are for her to keep.

     Q.  Is it possible for me to buy some extra books?

A)  No, unfortunately we can’t do that this time.

Donate to Support Hawthorne Families!

We recently learned that because of COVID, Hawthorne's community partners are not able to provide their usual level of critical support for our families in need this winter season. Hawthorne staff and administration have been working endlessly to identify needs and find support for our students and families, and they need our help.

WHAT are we doing? Given COVID restraints and in an effort to limit contact, we are raising money to be used for gift cards for one-stop shops (with delivery options) where families can purchase food and clothing. Hawthorne will coordinate the purchasing and distribution of gift cards to families in need before heading out for winter break on December 18th.

HOW you can help:

  1. Donate on the FOH Home Page. Our goal is to raise $5,000 by Monday, December 14.
Please add "winter support" in the 'Add special instructions to the seller' field.

  2. Drop off personal hygiene and household supplies to FOH Co-President, Dana Math. She will take them to the school all at once to limit contact.

Items Needed: Shampoo / conditioner, deodorant, soap, laundry detergent, toothbrushes / toothpaste, lotion, etc.
When: Weekend of Dec. 12 & 13
Where: 6006 51st Place S. Please leave items on the front porch, to the right of the driveway
