Update: REGISTRATION IS OPEN UNTIL MARCH 19!

Several classes filled up fast – but there are still have some spots available!

  • African Drumming on Thursdays for Grade 3 – 5 ($100). Students will learn to play and listen to a variety of hand percussion instruments and express their own rhythm! The rhythmic patterns taught are from both the African and Hispanic cultures. These drumming sessions offer students the opportunity to get in-depth knowledge of how to express themselves in a group setting and develop skills for how to perform in front of an audience.

  • Capoeira on Tuesday for K – 2 or Wednesday for K- 5 ($204). Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which combines fight, dance, rhythm and movement. Each class is based on our three principles of learning skills: Focus, Discipline and Respect. Experienced kids move on to learning about Achievement, Community and Leadership.

  • Colibri Kids Yoga and Mindfulness on Thursdays for K – 5 ($194). Inspired by the fun, imaginative and intelligent minds of children and based on the most recent research on the benefits of mindfulness in children these classes are infused with music, breathing techniques, art, books and sensory exploration.

  • Math Club on Tuesdays or Thursdays for Grades 1 – 3 ($45). Math facts form the building blocks for higher-level math such as adding and subtracting greater numbers, telling time, working with money, and multiple-step multiplication and division. We'll have fun working on mastering the basic addition and subtraction facts through games, focused instruction, and kinesthetic activities. We’ll also work on telling time on analog clocks.

There are also a limited amount of spots still in Panamanian Dance (Tuesdays, Girls Only, K-2, $35).

Students who are eligible for the Free and Reduced Price Lunch program may enroll in one Enrichment Program class for as little as $20 by using a discount code at registration. Only one reduced-fee class request per qualifying student per session. Contact enrichment@friendsofhawthorne.org (and let us know which class) for your code.

To sign up please either follow the link on the button at the top of the page. Sign up closes March 19th!

We are excited to be offering students diverse after-school class opportunities, including yoga, drumming, coding, and more! We hope to expand the program next year, and will need your help and feedback to learn from our pilot program this spring!

Click here for the course catalog and details about the program!

The spring pilot session will run from March 25 through June 13, and each class meets once per week. For this pilot, there will be no busing or transportation provided from school, so students' families are responsible for picking up their students promptly. We hope to get as many students participating as possible, and get feedback from parents, students, and teachers about what works and what needs improvement. With your participation and help, we hope to expand the program next year!

The PTA’s intent is that all Hawthorne students have the opportunity to participate in our Enrichment Program. Students who are eligible for the Free and Reduced Price Lunch program may enroll in one Enrichment Program class for as little as $20 by using the code 2019SPRFOH at registration. Only one reduced-fee class request per qualifying student per session. To ensure equal access to popular classes, a limited number of seats are held for scholarship students in each class until the fifth day of registration.

We can use your help to make this program even better! We will be sending out a survey for feedback toward the end of the program, but please contact us in the meantime with any ideas, concerns, or if you would like to volunteer with the after-school enrichment committee!
