Communication

  • The FOH website has a comprehensive school calendar and other helpful information. 

  • If you’d like to receive communication from the PTA (newsletters, volunteer opportunities, event reminders, etc.) please sign up here 

  • You may receive school-wide notifications from 775-503-0494, this is what we refer to as Talking Points, you can save this number in your phone.

  • Each teacher chooses different forms of communication including email or text messages. You can check with your child’s teacher if they haven’t shared their chosen tool.

Drop off and pick up

  • 7:30 (?) Students can go on the playground until their teacher is ready to line up and bring them into the classroom

  • 7:50 The bell rings and students head into the school

  • 7:55 Instruction begins

  • 2:25 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday and Wednesday 1:10 is early release. Kindergarten families wait on the sidewalk, all other students are released onto the playground.

  • Visit Hawthorne families at the Columbia City Farmers Market on Wednesday afternoons.

  • FOH hosts community-wide meetings throughout the school year on a monthly basis - everyone is invited to attend.

Fundraising

Hawthorne receives limited funding from the state and school district so FOH raises vital funds to fill gaps in Hawthorne’s annual operating budget.  This ensures all students have access to a learning interventionist and  school counselor, and that teachers can rely on quality classroom learning materials (books, subscriptions, etc.) and supplies.  Donations also fund community-wide events like the Back to School BBQ, Multicultural Night and other events. 

You can have a big impact by making a tax deductible donation here. There will be many opportunities to give throughout the year and you can also become a monthly sustaining donor.
