Since 2014 the students of Hawthorne have had the opportunity to show their school spirit and raise money for Hawthorne’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) curriculum — all while doing something fun and healthy! Students walk with their class at Genesee Park. There are prizes for students to get them interested and excited about raising funds for Hawthorne.
2017 Walk-a-Thon Information
On Friday, October 20th — rain or shine — students will walk with their class at Genesee Park. There will be prizes for students to get them interested and excited about raising funds for Hawthorne.
Watch for pledge forms that we'll send home with kids via back pack mail after a Walk-a-Thon assembly on Wednesday, October 5th.
Please help your student collect pledges of any amount — even just a buck! — from neighbors, family and friends.
There are two ways you and your child can collect your pledges:
We're seeking 100% participation, so all kids and families can be part of a fun event that benefits our school. Bring completed pledge forms and donations to the main office or the classroom by Wednesday, October 19th.
If you'd like to volunteer by helping plan and organize the event, setting up, cleaning up or helping with other activities on the day of the event, please contact Marita Grunfeld at firstname.lastname@example.org or 206-898-0236.
2014 - Students and their families raised $14,746! 45% of Hawthorne students submitted pledges. In addition, the walkathon benefitted from $4,350 in sponsorship from groups including IBS, the Moose Group and FOH. All students received a T-shirt, courtesy of the Moose Group, and a pedometer. Captain Lazy Pants (a.k.a. teacher Len Hill) engaged the students in pre- and post-event assemblies. Grade bands and individual students were rewarded for outstanding participation in a variety of categories (e.g., greatest number of pledges, best spirit, etc.). The walkathon funds have been earmarked to support STEAM programming.
2015 - Hawthorne students, families, friends, teachers, and community ROCKED this year's walk-a-thon. All students received a t-shirt and a jump rope. The event exceeded expectations, raising over $17,000!
2016 - A BIG thank you is in order for another successful Hawthorne Elementary School Walk-a-Thon! Not only did we raise more than $15,000 (and still counting), I believe we also raised school spirit and pride! We could not have pulled off this event without the hard work of many volunteers, teachers and sponsors.
